The 128 Man Handicapping Contest has now arrived at the
Final Four! We’ll touch on the lucky 4 SBR forum finalists in a minute, but let’s
first take a look at the Elite Eight action.
MartinBlank vs
MexicanStallion: Some people believe in saving the best for last, but SBR
forum moderator CrazyL is not one of them. In the first ever tie in SBR’s
bracket contest history, posters MartinBlank and MexicanStallion weaved a
tangled web to entwine themselves in an identical 6-6 -.17 to 6-6 -.17 standoff.
We were forced to go to the scorecards and MexicanStallion
was awarded the victory for having a cooler name. Just kidding, we launched a “Sudden
Death” final 3 plays along with a random tiebreaker to settle this one off, and
it was ultimately MartinBlank which bested off MexicanStallion and advanced
into the Final Four! Congrats to both parties for the excitement and drama.
Tsoprano versus
woodg8: Going into this match Tsoprano was widely regarded by posters as
the overwhelming favorite, but woodg8 is not known as a slouch himself. Would
Tsoprano choke under pressure, could woodg8 succeed in doing what no one else
has been able to this entire tournament, and that is simply hang with Tsoprano?
The short answer is no, but it wasn’t an all out blown out
of the barn affair which occurred in
previous rounds for the souls unlucky enough to have drawn Tsoprano on their
side of the bracket. The final score line was an 8-4 +3.92 to 5-6-1 -1.13
victory for Mr. Soprano. He jumped out to a 7-1 lead, in typical Tsoprano
fashion, and never looked back since then. Congrats go out to woodg8 for hanging
in there and for cashing his prize as an Elite Eight finalist!
mr. leisure vs
SportsLockPicks: In one of the most promoted matches in recent memory,
SportsLockPicks wasted no time in exchanging critical and condescending barbs
of his opponent, and did not stop short of guaranteeing a victory for himself.
It became clear that baiting mr. leisure was not a good thing, as he was all
business in an 8-4 +3.80 to 6-5-1 +.62 dismissal of the fiery, up and coming
SBR forum poster in SportsLockPicks. Congrats on your fine showing SLP!
Cavstime09 vs
verbalkint: It may have been Lebron James who was making headlines for his
rebuttal to Sir Charles Barkley after being accused of being selfish for discussing
his free agency in 2010 while still being committed to the Cavaliers, but it
was SBR poster Cavstime09 who was making headlines in our side of the pond. He
delivered a swift 8-3 +3.64 knockout to the relative unknown verbalkint, who
certainly made his presence felt this tournament. We look forward to seeing
more of verbalkint in the future.
The Final Four should be a good one, as all contestants are
vying for their share of the $3250 prize-pool! Follow the bracket and
